If you have a Dell laptop with a power brick that utilizes "smart" technology then there are 3 wires coming into the laptop. An outer ring which is ground; an inner ring which is the +19V and the center pin which is a signal to the laptop about what charger is being used. Reference: http://kakopa.com/Dell_PS/index.html page for more details.

However, the easy solution is to create a Powerpole connection for each if theses and then when you transfer to the two connector converter on the two power leads, just remove the battery from the laptop.

What this does is:
- makes sure the laptop is running directly from the converter
- makes sure that the battery does not lose charge, because the "charger" isn't recognizes

If you don't remove the battery, you will see a message saying the laptop is plugged in, but the battery is not being charged. Slowly the battery will discharge.

If you remove the battery, you will see a message that there is no battery. Remember to put the battery back in if you plan to move while the laptop is still on.

I understand the logic (increased prices for parts) behind this type of "checking" but there should be a way to turn this off and allow charging of battery.

Oh well, Dell knows best.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16486713912589843397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678802241735148637.post-84741177931274177162014-05-10T14:25:58.326-07:002014-05-10T14:25:58.326-07:00Recently a question about whether or not the Conve...Recently a question about whether or not the Converter produces a bunch of heat. Good question, given the relative size of those heat fins. So far no heat build up. Fins are just warm to the touch and the plastic appears to not be retaining any heat. "Box" has been active continuously powering my laptop for the RMS Gateway. I understand that this is an older post,...Hi Rich. I understand that this is an older post, but I just wanted to reach out and say you're not alone in your frustrating experience. I have been shocked to find out just how dysfunctional the King County Red Cross (and to some extent the national organization too) is. I'm not sure what their problem is, but I feel lost, forgotten, and unappreciated. What has become apparent over time, however, is that no one knows what's going on in the organization. Ever staffers at high levels given conflicting information, and are forced to navigate several parallel but completely isolated systems to perform even basic tasks.

As a former professional in the world of antitrust law, I see the Red Cross as a lethargic monopolist -- content with its official and unique recognition, responsibilities, and brand name. I will think twice about donating in the future.

Personally I am sticking it out for now, but I don't suspect much to come of my volunteer experience. In meantime, hopefully I'll pick up some skills that may be of more use in other organizations.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678802241735148637.post-37172762156637523492010-07-18T12:31:02.884-07:002010-07-18T12:31:02.884-07:00This is a wonderful idea. When you have a crisis going on in your life that takes a priority on the want list, usually the only thing you want is that crisis to end, you will trade anything for that want to be taken care of. It is amazing how single minded you can become at that moment.Lucyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04579411037129623539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678802241735148637.post-72611979190419344262009-02-14T00:43:00.000-08:002009-02-14T00:43:00.000-08:00"That biscuit looks nice mummy" as used by a 5 yea..."That biscuit looks nice mummy" as used by a 5 year old when I finally sit down for a moment....Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17464244391201885299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678802241735148637.post-80252344081319398102009-02-08T17:00:00.000-08:002009-02-08T17:00:00.000-08:00Judgement, judging is something I feel we do all t...Judgement, judging is something I feel we do all the time. We judge ourselves and others. I think we judge for all different reasons. Sometimes to make a decision but mostly I think people judge to make themself feel better. Typically, the statement goes "can you believe so and so" or " I would never" Those are judgement statements and they are used to put oneself on higher ground.

Now, judging our wants? That is an interesting statement. How does one judge a want? I have trouble separating wants from needs. See, I like to put all things in the need category therefore I have to get it. Oh, I guess that is a judgement! I came across "Finding Flow" several years ago and it presented some interesting theories about finding that one thing that provides a sense of fulfillment and engagement; something that when you are doing it time passes by without your noticing. When engaged in this activity it produces a feeling of harmony. Particularly, an activity that requires focus and that calls upon a person's skill set (not watching tv :-) for example). Anyway, just thought I'd toss that theory out there :DCarma Sezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01897159620671834070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678802241735148637.post-7972644294815644952009-02-01T11:15:00.000-08:002009-02-01T11:15:00.000-08:00February is also my birthday month and I'm also bo...February is also my birthday month and I'm also boring as hell at parties.
